Well look at me, being all active and submitting another deviation and stuff. :P

Anyways, this was actually taken back in May, when, y'know, the butterflies aren't down in the south for the winter. My family went for a nature walk in one of Vermont's wetlands, and I spotted this little guy right as we were preparing to head out. We didn't spend all that much time there, thanks to the mosquitoes, which was a bit of a pity - the area had some pretty unique scenery!

Speaking of wetlands, though - there's this field two roads down from my house, where I go cross country skiing most winters, and I just found out that it's been designated as a wetlands area for like the past twenty years and that's why the state keeps it as undeveloped land! We have so few wetlands, they're really protective of the ones we do have. I never knew that about that field, though!

Comments and faves are always appreciated :la:

Oo! A Swallow-tail! That is my favorite butterfly :) I do really like the composition, the way the flowers cut into the picture gives it a nice diagonal line which makes it really interesting. I also don't mind that the wings go out of the picture and I love the shorter depth of field ^^

Yay for favorite butterfly! :D and thank you very much! I got like ten shots of this butterfly in hopes that one would turn out decent, and this was the composition I liked most because of the diagonals and everything you mentioned, so I'm glad that was successful :D

Nice tones, a little blurry but great angle. :)

Thank you! :D Every shot I got of this butterfly came out a little blurry and with too much noise for my liking, but I was too excited to have gotten a picture of a butterfly to not post it haha! :)

Butterflies are tough subjects to photograph.
So you actually did a great job at it, me knowing by experience how hard it is. :)
